What a wonderful challenge to try to narrow down moments for the Top Ten Highlights of the week!

  • The buzz of stories, and the singing in the bus, coming back from their first canvassing
  • The enthusiastic grin as a ‘townie’ student wanted to learn how to use the whippersnipper
  • Many hands making light work as 15 kg of bananas get processed within 30 minutes to fill our 20 tray dehydrator. That’s usually a couple of hours’ work
  • The first student-led worships have been excellent
  • Excitement with first attempts and progress at welding
  • Aha moments in the classroom most mornings
  • Singing around the fire at the beginning and end of each day
  • How much better our second weekly choir practice sounded than the first… parts coming through… #everyonesinthechoir
  • Putting new chainsaw handling skills not just on practice logs but cutting up firewood at elderly neighbour’s place
  • ‘Serious vibes’ at the dedication ceremony at the end of Week 1
  • Everyone in the garden during golden hour before sunset (may have included traces of singing)

Like John West used to say, it’s the wonderful moments I’m leaving it out of this list that make it so good. Out-takes on the cutting floor include buying a van, students noticing the difference healthy food makes, they’re getting used to helping in the kitchen, and this list goes on too.
